  • Travel to Puerto Vallarta--What Makes Banderas Bay So Special?  By : Jim Scherrer
Banderas Bay is a 500 square mile horseshoe shaped body of water located in the center of the Mexican Rivera. Being surrounded on three sides by the Sierra Madre mountains and having more than 50 miles of spectacular shoreline, it offers many unique benefits to the Puerto Vallarta region. On the same latitude as Hawaii, the bay is home to humpback whales, giant manta rays, dolphins, marlin, sailfish, and other deep water game fish. It is a very special bay, with a very special climate, and home to a very special society of people.
  • Nude Sunbathing and Wild Nightlife in Mexico  By : TJ Tutten
Think of beaches so white that the shells clinging to it pale in comparison. In 2005, hurricane Wilma doubled the size of the sandy shoreline in Cancun. After complete restoration, Cancun’s beaches are bigger and better. Although the beaches are considered public property, some access has to be maneuvered through the hotels. In the hotel zone, you will discover 14 miles of coastline looping around an inland lagoon known as Laguna Nichupte. Topless sun bathing is typical on some of the beaches in Cancun. While in Cancun, check out some of these great beaches:
  • Snorkeling In Playa Del Carmen And Other Activities  By :
Playa del Carmen is known for its beautiful, white sand beaches. Although the sands are not as powdery as those found in Cancun, the beaches in Playa del Carmen are very clean. The public beaches are well-maintained by the city. Everyday, a crew comes to the beach to rake the seaweeds that have been washed to shore and pick up the bottles and other pieces of trash on the sand. Even though the sandy beaches are clean, walking on the sand barefoot is not a good idea. The sand i...
  • Guanajuato: Too Many False Expectations  By :
A friend of mine told me about a conversation she had with a person she knows in one of the Mexican Prime Living Locations on the west coast of Mexico. This area, one to which many Americans flock, had become too expensive for her to continue living there. When my friend asked her where she might want to move, Guanajuato was her first choice. But, she lamented; she couldn't live in Guanajuato because she doesn't speak Spanish.

Three years ago, while sitting in one of Guana...
  • Hello From Mexico City – A Compact Day Of Discovery Of Downtown  By :
After our visit to the huge government-owned pawnshop, Nacional Monte de Piedad, we saw a side view of Mexico City’s and Latin America’s biggest cathedral: the Catedral Metropolitana. It is also at the heart of the world’s largest Catholic diocese. Due to the fact that Mexico was built on the former Lake Texcoco, the cathedral is slowly sinking and scaffolding in the interior of the building attests to the efforts to try to stabilize it.

In front of the Cathedral are numer...
  • Hello From Cuernavaca - An Excursion To Las Estacas  By :
After a beautiful breakfast in the garden at Roxana’s place with Helga, the young lab with shiniest black coat, dancing all around me, I went to my private tutoring session at the Ideal Language School where my teacher Estela and I talked at length about various dental procedures, funny doctor stories, and stories of unexplainable events and psychic happenings.

We also touched on the topic of personal security, and that a number of years ago there were quite a few kidnappi...

  • Travel to Puerto Vallarta--Afraid of Medical Care South of the Border?  By : Jim Scherrer
The sleepy little Mexican fishing village of Puerto Vallarta has reached a population of 350,000 inhabitants making it equal in size to Anaheim or St. Louis. This explosive growth has brought in many English speaking and US trained doctors and dentists to work in the three new, modern, and fully equipped hospitals and numerous new dental clinics. Not only are the practitioners well trained, but they’re reasonably priced. For that reason, many North Americans come to Vallarta for cosmetic surgery and dental work including caps, crowns, and implants. Due to the recent advances made in medicine and the booming economy in Vallarta, you have no reason to be concerned about medical care south of the border.
  • Travel to Puerto Vallarta--How Are Gringos Treated in Mexico?  By : Jim Scherrer
Aside from drug traffickers, drug users, and maybe Dawg, The Bounty Hunter, tourists in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico are treated with the utmost of dignity, respect, and kindness. Getting in and out of Mexico for North Americans is a cake-walk compared to getting in and out of the US for Mexicans. Since the economy of Vallarta, located along the Mexican Riviera in the foothills of the Sierra Madres has been built on tourism, it is in the best interest of the natives to assure a safe and fun visit for all North Americans, thus guaranteeing a quick return visit. There are close to 50,000 Americans and Canadians in Vallarta during the “high season” of November through May and since the economy is based on revenues generated from these visitors and retirees, most of the Vallartenses are now speaking English. They are famous for treating North Americans as friends, family, and almost as royalty!
  • Travel to Puerto Vallarta--Don’t Drink the Water?  By : Jim Scherrer
Water purity and cleanliness was a major concern many years ago throughout Mexico. However, during the past ten years, the beautiful city of Puerto Vallarta has upgraded it’s entire water treatment and distribution system. Today, there is no need for bottled water, filtration systems, bacteria and amoeba prevention pills, or food treatment solutions, i.e. the water is equal to that in the States and very safe to drink from the tap. Because Vallarta’s livelihood is based on tourism combined with
  • Guanajuato: It Is Time For Us To Leave  By : Douglas Bower
I’ve been trying, of late, to put into words just what I’ve learned about living in Mexico for the past four years that is significant enough to share with my readers. There is so much. Some things I’ve grown to love: the fine restaurants and the slower pace of life here. Some things I’ve come to bemoan: caring for the environment doesn’t seem to be high on the list of things to worry about in this country.

Some things have been city specific. We moved to Guanajuato four y...
  • Guanajuato: Mexican Free Zones  By : Douglas Bower
Years ago when my wife and I pulled up roots in America and moved to Guanajuato, Mexico, I began telling everyone who would listen that San Miguel de Allende was well on its way to Guanajuato. Mexicans as well as American Expats shook their heads and clicked their tongues at me. No one believed the expatriate debacle that has overtaken San Miguel de Allende could ever, in a million years, come to Guanajuato.

    Well…it’s coming.

    No! It’s here.

  • Hotelito Desconocido A Pacific Ocean Hideaway  By : Kelly Wilson
The Hotelito Desconocido is beautifully situated on a remote coastal lagoon, miles away from anything, and quite unlike most beach resorts you will have ever seen.

The setting is spectacular, indeed breathtaking, if you look in either direction down the beach, you will see nothing but the Pacific Ocean, and the apparently endless beach.

The Hotelito Desconocido is in the middle of an ecological reserve, and this fact controls much of the hotel I am a creature of comfort...
  • The Beaches Of Puerto Vallarta  By : Justin Burch
The beaches in and around Puerto Vallarta may be the most diverse in Mexico. Located at the midpoint of Banderas Bay, the area surrounding Puerto Vallarta boasts 34 miles of coastline, 26 of which are sandy beaches. Within the city, the beaches are elegant and pristine, bordered by restaurants and resorts. Beaches to the north of the city tend to be longer and wider, with great opportunities for surfing and swimming. South of Puerto Vallarta, the mountains topple into the sea...

Mexico is distinguished as a country of parallel realities, countless contradictions and staggering disparities. The rise and fall of great societies, particular...
