Liberty Bell Memorial Museum

After soaking up sun on the Melbourne Florida Beach, we drove 15 minutes to enjoy a piece of Americana. We were greeted at the door with a smile and a personal tour by the volunteer on duty.

The Liberty Bell Memorial Museum is centered on a replica of the Liberty Bell. In 1976 the Whitechapel Bell Foundry (located in England), whom made the first Bell, offered to send two replica Liberty Bells to every state that would pay for shipping. Few states took Whitechapel up on the offer, but the Melbourne Florida schoolchildren collected the funds to purchase the bell. The Liberty Bell was on tour and in storage for about 10 years when Melbourne decided to house the artifact in a defunct water tower.

The museum has recently expanded to include Freedom Hall. Freedom Hall houses military uniforms, all types of military helmets, weapons, and other war memorabilia.

The museum is an excellent stop for a brief educational experience and to chat with long time local volunteers. It is located about an hour from Orlando on the Space Coast and less than 15 minutes from beaches.
