Historic Old Town Albuquerque

Great food, staged gunfights, good shopping and high speed internet access in the plaza. Old Town Albuquerque offered something for all ages.

We started off our day in Old Town Albuquerque eating lunch at the High Noon Restaurant and Saloon. The saloon was housed in a building erected in 1785. It was once the location of a gambling hall and brothel. The food was really great and the ambiance was outstanding. The architectural details in the Santo Room such as the niches filled with Santos from Mexico and the Philippines are very interesting.

We left the restaurant just in time to see a staged gunfight downtown. The actors looked like they were having fun and it added to the ambiance of the location. The downtown area was filled with shops selling all types of Mexican and Indian curios. My girlfriend and I were in heaven; unfortunately our two teenage boys were in Hell. We were surprised and amazed that the plaza area in the center of all the shops had wi-fi. The boys jumped on the laptop and started surfing while Toni and I trolled the shops for items that we couldn’t live without.

The beautiful San Felipe de Neri church is an interesting photo op and is located across the street from the plaza. The entire downtown is a picturesque location for a camera buff or just someone who enjoys the southwestern style.

Old Town is easily accessible from I-40 take the 157A exit and turn south; then follow the signs for Old Town. We enjoyed the time we spent and it was well worth the trip.
